Giants' Lewis, Alfonzo placed on DL

06/09/2007 - San Francisco, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - San Francisco Giants catcher Eliezer Alfonzo and right fielder Fred Lewis have been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Both were hurt in Friday's 5-3, 10-inning loss to the Oakland Athletics.

Alfonzo departed in the 10th inning with a left knee sprain after Donnie Murphy collided into him trying to score on a ground ball. Mark Kotsay grounded a ball to first baseman Ryan Klesko, who threw home to nail Murphy at the plate. Murphy's leg collided with Alfonzo's knee, and Alfonzo was helped from the dugout to the clubhouse.

Lewis left the game after the first inning with a strained right oblique muscle.

The Giants were forced to use starting pitcher Noah Lowry in right field in the 10th inning after Alfonzo's injury. Also, third baseman Pedro Feliz moved behind the plate for the first time in his career.

The Giants recalled Dave Roberts from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Fresno. The center fielder underwent surgery on his left elbow to remove bone chips and spurs three days shy of a month ago. The club also brought up Guillermo Rodriguez to be catcher Bengie Molina's backup.
