Kaymer up to No. 5 in the world

08/16/2010 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Martin Kaymer was a playoff winner at the PGA Championship on Sunday and that helped him jump eight spots to a career- high rank of No. 5 in the latest world golf rankings.

Kaymer won his first major championship in a playoff over Bubba Watson. Watson soared 25 places to No. 26, while Dustin Johnson climbed five to 24th. Johnson missed the playoff after he was given a two-stroke penalty for grounding his club in a bunker on the 72nd hole.

Tiger Woods finished the season without a major championship victory for the second straight year. Woods' last major title was at the 2008 U.S. Open. He shared 28th at the PGA Championship, but it was enough for him to hold on to the top spot in the rankings.

Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood and Steve Stricker held steady in the second, third and fourth.

Kaymer's move bumped Jim Furyk down a notch to sixth, while Rory McIlroy, who missed the playoff by a stroke, was up one to seventh and Ernie Els fell two to eighth.

Paul Casey stayed put at No. 9, Luke Donald tumbled three to 10th, while Ian Poulter and Hunter Mahan dipped one apiece to 11th and 12th respectively. U.S. Open champ Graeme McDowell slid two places to 13 and Anthony Kim held steady in 14th.

Zach Johnson, who finished alongside McIlroy in third place at Whistling Straits, leapt eight to No. 15. Retief Goosen dipped a notch to 16th and Robert Allenby was 17th again this week.

Padraig Harrington fell two to 18th, while British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen and Sean O'Hair both dropped on to 19th and 20th.

Justin Rose, last week's No. 20, tumbled three to 23rd this week.
